| About the Children's Trust Fund |
The South Carolina General Assembly created the Children's Trust Fund in September of 1984. CTF is not a state entity, but a separate, eleemosynary corporation granted tax exempt status under Section 501c(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The nine members of the Board of Trustees are appointed by the Governor of the State of South Carolina and confirmed by the Senate.

| Mission |
The Children's Trust Fund (CTF) through the use of its resources, shall stimulate innovative prevention and treatment programming to meet critical needs of South Carolina's children through the awarding of grants to private, non-profit organizations. The Children's Trust Fund of South Carolina focuses on long-term solutions to the problems facing South Carolina's children by working through local community coalitions for systems change. The Children's Trust Fund will fund a broad range of child abuse and neglect prevention activities -- from protection and safety to shelter, food, social and cognitive development.
|
| Goals |
The goals of the organization are as follows:
- CTF will continue to develop knowledge and expertise concerning children's issues and their relationship to the well-being of the state of South Carolina.
- CTF will use its grant program to advocate on behalf of South Carolina's children at risk.
- CTF will explore additional forms of advocacy, especially with regard to the impact of children at risk on the business community.
- CTF will act as a catalyst for private sector initiatives in the children's services arena.
- CTF will be very visible in its activities and will develop language that vividly describes the plight of children at risk and the consequences should society choose to neglect them.
- CTF will seek to raise its level of funding in order to better accomplish these tasks.
|
| The future of South Carolina depends on the children of today |
| Children who are abused and neglected are at a higher rate for failing school, having behavioral problems, becoming juvenile offenders, and are more likely to continue the cycle of abuse with their own children. Child abuse and neglect can not be ignored. The Children's Trust Fund seeks to address this problem through prevention by providing grants to establish or
administer programs shown to prevent child abuse and neglect. |
